NCEP Helps Build Summer Camp Memories
For the past 16 years, the Newmarket Recreation Department’s Summer Camp has provided a fun-filled summer for over 350 kids ranging in age from 3 – 13. Besides weekly field trips to local “hot spots” such as the Children’s Museum of NH, Chuck E. Cheese, Bowl-o-Rama and Great Island Common in Newcastle, campers and their counselors enjoy energetic days spent playing street hockey, foursquare, kickball and other activities. Interspersed throughout the summer are a range of special events. These include a food eating contest, “drive-in” movie on the Rec. Department athletic field and an overnight campout complete with a dance, lots of games and a roaring campfire. Every year, the NCEP provides financial assistance to the Recreation Department to help it ensure that no child misses out on the opportunity to attend camp.

World Language Teacher, Claudette Moran, received a grant from NCEP to purchase famous artists’ prints for use in beginning world language classes at Newmarket’s Jr./Sr. High. These prints will be used to introduce and expose students to well-known artists by integrating their works into the topical areas studied in the beginning levels of a world language. For example, the prints will be used to develop vocabulary such as colors, family, weather, leisure time activities, homes, etc. all while learning about some famous artists and their works of art. Moran was thrilled to receive the $750 and was pleased NCEP was able to fund the whole initiative. She is busy getting the program put into place.

Mules Market comes to Newmarket
Newmarket Jr./Sr. High teachers, Linda Albright and Janice Murray and the Roots & Shoots (www.rootsandshoots.org) extracurricular program are opening a food and necessity pantry for students before, during and after school. The pantry, called the "Mules Market," will serve any and all students of the school. Designed after a similar pantry at Nashua High School, it will contain non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies. The program will allow Roots & Shoots members to give back to their community, and at the same time allow kids and their families to have a healthier and happier home environment. Roots & Shoots of Newmarket requested a grant for $750 for the mobile storage units used to store the products, and NCEP was able to help with this important community-building initiative.
